LEXINGTON, Ky.—

The University of Kentucky James B. Beam Institute for Kentucky Spirits has named its first Head Distiller – Glenna Joyce.  As Head Distiller, she will oversee all aspects of spirit production at the Institute.

Joyce’s career in distilling began right after receiving her undergraduate degree in biochemistry from Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York. One of her professors referred her to local craft distillery named Upstate Distilling Company.

Joyce worked for two years at Upstate, wearing many hats there like shipping and receiving, loading grains, checking fermentations, running the still, making batch notes and even being a tour guide.
